Abandoning the cold winds of my hometown (Toledo, Ohio) for the Georgia foothills in the Winter of 1989, I have settled on an acre in Lawrenceville across the street from my lovely twin sister Judi. In the spaces between cleaning my house and running after my animals, I get to paint, draw, scream at my faulty appliances and then paint and draw some more. I am in a perpetual state of learning how to do all things art-related, since I am far too stubborn and impatient to be properly taught, so you will often find me stomping over to my sister’s home for inspiration or standing in my living room glaring at something that didn’t turn out exactly like I envisioned. I figure with another 40 years of this, I’ll be a true pro just in time for the Rest Home.
I credit my third grade teacher (Mrs. Doyle) with bungee-cording a mechanical pencil and a sketch pad to my desk to keep me from frequently defacing my homework and tests. Since I would grow easily bored with them, by the time they reached her desk, they often had tiny glue-and paper men and animals who, when you pulled the string that I had removed from my sweater or jeans and wove through the holes I poked in the tests, would climb the mountains or trees that I had drawn. I never learned math properly because try as she might, I was more intent on removing the paint from my desk with my fingernails in a satisfying pattern than in division or multiplication. I still struggle with focus, but thank her and my excellent teachers in the Toledo Public Schools who I have turned prematurely grey. I am currently doing the same to my dear long-suffering husband Robb, who is my biggest fan, which shows just how insane he truly is.
I work in any medium on any surface, and have no ‘artists statement’ other than the intent to produce little gems that hopefully will not end up in the local landfill or thrift store- reasonably priced, in the hopes that the possessors’ grandchildren can one day be informed by someone at Antiques Roadshow that they are worth 400 times what they paid for it, long after I have been taken back to my home planet by whatever alien life form decided to drop me on this planet that I am ill-equipped to handle. I have enjoyed showing in such lovely cities as Birmingham, Atlanta, and Monroe and have enjoyed the support of many fabulous humans, who surprise me by purchasing and actually hanging onto my musings. On this here website you will find some more, as well as information on past shows, current shows and available works. Thank you for your kind attention.
